The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinian Territories, Ramiz Alakbarov, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Egyptian Committee in the Gaza Strip, accompanied by a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The visit included an extensive tour of the Egyptian camps established by the committee to serve families affected by the worsening humanitarian conditions within the Strip.
During the tour, Alakbarov listened to a detailed explanation of the nature of Egyptian interventions in the areas of emergency relief, camp management, and response mechanisms for the harsh winter and its accompanying heavy rains, which have affected thousands of families. He observed the large quantities of aid brought in daily by the Egyptian Committee, praising what he described as "organized and effective work based on planning and rapid response."
Alakbarov expressed his deep appreciation for the Egyptian efforts, stating that the scale of the work he witnessed inside the Egyptian camps reflects a sincere commitment to improving the living conditions of the population. He also mentioned that he had been in Cairo a few days prior, where he visited the headquarters of the Egyptian Red Crescent, and affirmed that he had witnessed the same level of professionalism, organization, and high capacity for managing humanitarian work.
He added that what distinguishes the Egyptian effort is its focus on providing basic needs comprehensively, explaining that the Egyptian camps contain equipped tents, baby milk, diapers, and food supplies, in addition to the necessary logistical services to ensure aid reaches the most needy families in various areas of the Strip.
Alakbarov also praised the important role played by the field teams of the Egyptian Committee, stressing that they work with high morale despite the challenges and that their continuous presence among the people reflects a clear humanitarian commitment. He affirmed that this type of field effort is a model to be emulated in crisis management within Gaza.
Alakbarov concluded his visit by emphasizing his great appreciation for Egypt and its humanitarian institutions, noting that the joint cooperation between Egyptian authorities and the United Nations is a crucial pillar in strengthening relief work within the Strip during this critical phase.
