The Egyptian Committee announced its coordination with the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) to ensure the provision of safe drinking water supplies to affected areas and displaced people inside the Gaza Strip. This step aims to alleviate the humanitarian crisis resulting from the destruction of water infrastructure and the disruption of desalination plants.
A responsible source at the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility explained that the utility is operating water tankers and directing them toward collection points inside the city and northern Gaza. It is also carrying out urgent maintenance work on pressure lines and pumping stations in coordination with municipalities and field partners to ensure safe water reaches as many families as possible. Relief organization reports indicate that water tankers, desalination systems, and wells remain among the most important emergency water supply sources for the population.
For its part, the Egyptian Committee confirmed that the coordination includes securing the transport of desalinated water, continuous tanker distribution, and support for repairing damaged water networks, in cooperation with regional and local partners. This comes as part of Egypt’s efforts to prioritize the water sector within reconstruction and humanitarian support plans. Official Egyptian statements highlight Cairo’s commitment to leading efforts to rebuild the water sector in Palestine within a framework of regional and international cooperation.
According to data from the United Nations and partner organizations, the transport of water by tankers and the repair of desalination plants and wells have contributed to providing temporary water supplies to hundreds of thousands of residents. However, there remains a great need to secure sustainable supplies and treatment networks capable of meeting demand after the destruction of key infrastructure components. The utility continues to work with its partners to determine repair and distribution priorities to ensure water reaches health centers and shelter camps.
