In a new humanitarian initiative reflecting Egypt’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable groups in the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian Committee for the Relief of the People of Gaza announced the opening of “Camp No. 8”, designed as a fully equipped care center for orphans and widows who lost their relatives during the recent war.
This camp is one of the largest humanitarian centers run by the Egyptian Committee, featuring comprehensive residential and service facilities, including fully equipped living units, field kitchens, a mini medical center, and areas dedicated to educational and recreational activities for children.
The Committee emphasized that the purpose of Camp No. 8 is to provide a safe and stable environment for orphans and widows, fulfilling their essential needs for food, clothing, healthcare, and psychological support, as part of a broader Egyptian plan to support the Gaza community in the post-war period.
A responsible source within the Committee stated that the camp was built and is managed in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent and several Egyptian civil society organizations, with social workers and joint Egyptian-Palestinian medical teams supervising the care of children.
Currently, the camp accommodates hundreds of children and women from various governorates of Gaza, with ongoing efforts to expand its capacity in the coming weeks to host additional humanitarian cases.
The Committee added that Camp No. 8 will serve as a model for Egyptian-run camps in Gaza, combining shelter, care, and human development, offering children and affected mothers a new opportunity to live in a safe environment that preserves human dignity.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that supporting orphans and widows remains a top priority, and that Egyptian humanitarian work in Gaza will continue steadily to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and reinforce values of solidarity and brotherhood between the two nations.
